What to do with your plants on arrival...

Your plants have been travelling in the post for a couple of days. This can cause stress to the plants so we advise that you follow these simple steps to ensure that your plants get off to the best possible start.

  • Carefully unpack your plants from their packaging.
  • If you feel they need water it is advisable you place in a container of water (rain water preferably if you collect it) with enough water to cover the base of the root ball and leave the plants take up the water they require.
  • You should, once the plants have been rehydrated, think about what you are going to do with your young plants.
  • We advise strongly that you don’t plant out summer flowering plants until the risk of frost has passed completely in your area.
  • Plug plants should ideally be potted on into pots or larger trays to grow on in readiness for planting out into their final positions. We do not advocate planting plug plants into their final areas unlike some of our competitors. It is our experience that plug plants perform better in the garden once they have been potted on prior to planting out!
  • Larger “ready to plant young plants” like those supplied in counts of 5 and 10 are fine to plant straight into their final positions.
  • For seeds – follow the instructions on the packet.
  • For houseplants – carefully unpack and water if necessary.
  • For flower bouquets we feel that it is good practice to cut 1-2 inches off the bottom of the stems and rehydrate in water straight away upon arrival. When placing the bouquet into a vase or container please use the flower food provided. This will nourish the flowers and prolong flower power!
  • Discard the packaging (recycle the cardboard box if you wish).
  • If you are unsatisfied with your purchase please contact customerservices@bloomingdirect.com within 21 days stating your complaint. Please refer to the complaints procedure in the Terms and Conditions section of the website.
  • Above all we hope that you enjoy your purchase.
