Ah….it is that time of year when we have dusted down our machinery and our nursery Sion Hall Farm is beginning to burst into life again.
The covers have come off, the joints oiled and greased…well thats our staff sorted at least!!
We have undergone a bit of a change from last year and leap into this year with a state of the art growing facility where we grow your plants whilst paying even more attention to detail.
The seed sowing machine is working hard, the propagating tunnels are nicely warm and humid and the sun is blessing our nursery. The growing year has well and truly started!
The first wave of green cotyledons and leaves has transformed the fairly empty nursery into a living and breathing area of differing colours and scents.
The Begonias that were sown 3 weeks ago are now well away, well for a young Begonia seedling anyway that is, as are the perennials including our best selling Lavender range and the traditional favourite Delphinium .
The air in the greenhouse is heady with the perfume like scent of Geranium . As these plants grow so they require less water. The less water the stronger the scent and on the colours with pronounced zonal leaves the deeper the zone! Marvellous.
On the other side of the nursery we have all the stock reappearing after their winter hibernation. The outstanding Clematis and Hydrangea plants are beginning to throw their shoots towards the sun.
This is always a very satisfying time of the year to be a grower. Probably more so than seeing the plants mature is to see them start off their growing lives. I guess its a little like watching your kids grow up.
Anyway gotta go…..plants to grow!
