Jersey Battle of Flowers

Thursday 9th of August is the date of the next Battle of Flowers parade in Jersey.

This popular event attracts nearly 30,000 visitors each year to see the fantastic parade of flower covered theme floats, music, dancers and lots of other entertainment.

This century of Battles has also reflected the changes and developments that have occurred in western society. The first motor vehicles joined the parade in 1906, but horse-drawn floats were popular right up until the 1970s. Gone also is the real “Battle” where the crowd were invited to rip up the exhibits and pelt their friends with flowers!

As a family day out it is hard to beat the carnival atmosphere and on the Friday evening after the Thursday parade there is a chance to see it all again but this time with the floats all lit up for the Moonlight Parade.

This year the beauty queen of Jersey, Miss Jersey Battle of Flowers, is 19 year old Victoria Trehorel from St Saviour. Accompanying her is one of Jersey’s most famous exports Kyran Bracken, the former England rubgy scrum half and winner of TV’s Dancing on Ice.

I shall be taking my family once again this year for what promises to be a great day out.

Blooming Direct,

That parade looks like an awesome event, Where you able to make it to the actual event yourself?

Just wondering,

Hi Simon,

Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to go but my wife & children went. They had a great time and by all accounts the standard of floats and flowering was as good as ever.
It was a shame to miss out this time around…but there is always next year!
