Just as the rain appears again I start to write a blog entry about our Great British summer plants!!!
We all seem to have gone a little mad over the last few years with planting out all these exotic plants in our gardens. This is all good and well but I have the feeling that we are losing our wonderful traditional “English Country Garden”.
What with Wimbledon round the corner, Lord’s hosting the odd Test match, watching every other country (apart from the Home Nations) battling it out to be the football champions of Europe and of course the smell of charred meat wafting over from your neighbours fence – the Great British summertime is coming round again quickly.
Soon we will be able to rejoice in tall spiky Delphinium flowers which also make great stems for cutting and putting in vases, outrageous Sunflowers, cottage garden Poppies, the beautifully proportioned Cornflower and the majestic (and wholly edible – perfect in salads) Nasturtium.
Not forgetting the jewel in the crown of our beloved summer gardens the English Lavender. With its delicate perfume and subtle blue flowers the Lavender really is the epitome of the Great British summer time.
If you feel the urge please send me through YOUR favourite summer flowers and plants. If we don’t stock them maybe your message will encourage us to.
Happy gardening,
Joel
